Candidates Process Page
Once you are registered with Magellan Recruitment and provide us with all necessary documentation, we will begin searching for a suitable position for you. You must submit all information listed below to be eligible for our office to begin our search for a position for you.
We require the following documentation from you to begin the placement process:
- Signed Terms and Conditions. You must either post this to our office, fax to our office or you may attach the Terms and Conditions to an email and notify us that you have read, accept and digitally sign the Terms and Conditions. Your application will not be processed until we have this on file.
- Copy of your Curriculum Vitae, preferably emailed to info@magellan.co.nz with all documentation required. It is imperative that you take the time to prepare a professional CV as this is what is presented to employers. Be sure it shows your level of experience and specific information on each job you have held. This is an advertisement for you. If you take the time to make this a professional document, the better chances you have of being employed. A CV is required to apply for a work permit. We will not be able to present your file to overseas employers without this document. If you do not have a CV, you may use one of our templates available to make one.
- Copies of all your qualifications and certificates. These are required by the Papua New Guinea Immigration Department. We cannot submit your file for a work permit without these.
- Minimum of three contactable references
- Copies of any written references you have available.
Many of our employers are looking to place people in positions urgently. Should you wish to get a copy of your police background check prior to being offered a position, this may be very helpful for you. These checks can take up to one month which only delays you being able to apply for a work permit. It is highly recommended that you take care of this as this makes your application even more attractive to employers as the wait time for you to start your position can be reduced.
We will conduct screening checks, if required:
- Police Check
- Drug and Alcohol Test
- Verification of Registrations and Certificates (to ensure they are current and valid)
- If position is overseas, a financial check will be undertaken to ensure there are no outstanding tax obligations, child support payments due, fines, etc that will hinder your departure from New Zealand.
- HIV Test
We know that all of you are anxious for information and are looking forward to working in PNG. We would like to take a moment to outline the process that must take place before going to work in Papua New Guinea.
The process
Once you have turned in your completed application package to our office, the steps are as follows:
- Your information is updated into our database.
- As employers contact us with specific job descriptions of positions they require, we will go through our files and select the candidates which meet their criteria.
- Once we have provided the prospective employer with your application and CV we will contact you immediately.
- The process will then move to the employer’s office where they will work through all the CV’s and applications to find the best prospective employees for the position that they need to fill.
- The employer will then contact us with the names of the individuals that they would like interview.
- We will work together with the employer to set up interviews and locations for those interviews.
- During the interview process, the employer will provide you with information relating to the position you have applied for, salary package, and any other benefits that could be included in the overall package. They will also provide you with the information relating to your rostered hours of work, traveling to and from Papua New Guinea, accommodation enquiries and any other questions you may have.
- After receiving a job offer from the company, you will then be able to decide whether you wish to accept the offer.
- You will have to obtain a Work Visa to be eligible to work in Papua New Guinea. The PNG Department of Immigration will require, among other things, a police background check, which can take up to 30 days to obtain, and a chest x-ray. and a medical examination.
- After the PNG Department of Immigration receives the Work Visa Application from your employer they will begin processing it, which can take from 30-45 days.
- When that process is complete, you will then be able to travel to Papua New Guinea to begin work.
It is impossible for us to speculate on a salary package for you. There are many variations in each position and the skill levels among the applicants. Until you receive an offer from a specific company laying out the terms of the employment engagement, any information you receive would be only speculation.
We kindly ask that you please keep phone calls to a minimum, as our office is currently working with the companies that we have signed contracts with in Papua New Guinea, to provide them with staff for their projects and we are focused on this time consuming process. We are unable to submit any incomplete applications. If you have enquiries please email us on info@magellan.co.nz. |
